Matthew was a Research Intern at ASPI

Matthew’s research interests include international organisations and multilateral initiatives with a particular focus on regional trade and security cooperation in Southeast Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific. He is also interested in the strength of the rules-based international order, its core values of liberal democracy, human rights and international law, and threats to international security including cyberwarfare, terrorism, and climate change.

Matthew is a Westpac Future Leaders Scholar and a New Colombo Plan Scholarship alumnus, completing part of his undergraduate study at Taylor’s University in Malaysia and interning with the Malaysia Australia Business Council.

Matthew holds a Master of International Relations from the University of Queensland where he also tutored Australian Foreign Policy, as well as a Bachelor of Business from the Queensland University of Technology.
